At 6 months old, the hens are laying their colorful eggs. The large size green eggs are produced by the Ameraucana, the medium size dark brown egg with speckles are by the Light Brahma, and the light brown one are by the Wyandottes.

I order the breed that I like aesthetically and matching it characteristic with the cold weathered North East, making sure they are winter hardy and friendly. Also egg color is important to us. We like brown eggs and a special green egg. Did you know there are no nutritional differences between white or brown eggs.

On a rainy Tuesday morning, July 13, 2010, I received a call from the Post Office to come and pick up my chicks. I'm filled with euphoria the entire week.

The collective known as #SOS5pm (Poop Machine) consist of two Silver Laced Wyandotte two Easter Egger that lay green eggs and one Light Brahma. They are now 4 months old (November 2010) and are happily living outdoor in the backyard.

Chicken coop made from recycled and found materials

We build the coop from found materials like futon bed frame and shipping pallets. I also used my old canvas stretcher bar and even my paintings as cool barrier. The front door is lined with FedEx envelop that is waterproof and some are filled with insulation mineral fiber.

Building a chicken coop takes some planning and design, unlike building a human dwelling, a coop is smaller and manageble. The next coop should be more archictectural inspired. Museum are now build like an artwork itself, why not a coop? How about Frank Gehry inspired coop. Stay tune.
